Cities in 2050

Support for the operational implementation of a forward-looking vision

Team → Atelier Soil (urban planning), Maud Caubet (architecture), BFluid (urban anthropology)

Date → 2025-2026

Climate change, an ageing population, and land development: to prepare for these upheavals, Icade asked a trio of experts - Sonia Lavadinho, an urban anthropologist; Maud Caubet, an architect; and Madeleine Masse, an urban planner – to lead a series of workshops designed to give concrete form to the discussion on the city of 2050. These workshops involved more than 60 employees.

The aim was to find practical solutions to the challenges facing the city in 2050 by working alongside Icade’s teams to explore the role of the flagship building, or ‘refuge building’; the means available for living in harmony with the elements; intergenerational offices; nomadism and transhumance; the renaturation of infrastructure; green equalisation; the ‘spinning top’ building, which offers much greater flexibility of use; and methods to ensure that buildings can last beyond the turn of the century.
